VEGAN TREATS INFORMATION

“MEATY” TREATS:
Burgers, sausages, hot pockets, jerkies, tacos, bacon

Vegan replacements for meat is generally made from grains (e,g. wheat gluten), legumes (e.g. soy, beans, lentils), and mushrooms. You can make your own vegan burgers or buy it. There are many brands that produce mock meat/alternatives. Some brands that makes food that tastes like real meat are:

“DAIRY” TREATS :
Cheese, chocolate, chocolate milk, ice cream, mousse, nice cream, pudding, rice cream, yoghurt

Many dairy-free ice creams replaces the dairy with an almond milk base. It is also possible to make a healthier alternative to ice cream called nice cream, which is made by blending frozen bananas.

There are many plant-based alternatives to milk. Alpro and Oatly sells chocolate milk, yoghurts and puddings, where the dairy is replaced with soymilk and oatmilk.

It is possible to make rice cream with any plant-based milks (almonds, oats, rice, soy, etc).




“GELATIN” TREATS:
Gummy candy, jelly, marshmallows

Gelatin is often used to make jelly-like treats. Some replacements to gelatin are:
-agar agar powder (seaweed)
-Carrageenan
-Irish Moss
-Aquafaba (liquid from a can of unsalted chickpeas)




BAKED GOODS:
Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, buns, pies, waffles, pancakes

Many baked goods contain dairy and eggs, but many do not. It is possible to make baked goods baked goods with and without vegan alternatives to non-vegan ingredients.

A lot of the cookies that are sold in grocery stores are vegan, even though they are not labeled vegan (example Ritz).



CONDIMENT/DIPS:
Chili sauce, guacamole, ketchup, mustard, salsa, soy sauce, sriracha



CRISPY TREATS:
Chips, fries, tortilla chips/nachos, and pretzels

Chips, fries, nachos and pretzels are generally made from potatoes, corn, grains, and vegetable oils. That is why a lot of snacks that are sold are vegan by default, even though they aren't labeled vegan.

A lot of condiments and dips are also vegan. For a cheesy flavor, you can sprinkle on nutritional yeast.


DRINKS:
Sodas, energy drinks
A lot of soft drinks and energy drinks are vegan, however some may use animal products as food coloring. Some drinks that are vegan are:

- Coca Cola and Schweppes (except Schweppes Orange Squash)
- Red Bull Energy Drink
